I first noticed Stellan in Breaking The Waves with Emily Watson. Their unforgettable performances made the entire movie one of my all time favorites.  

Insomnia (the original Scandinavian version)  is another, thanks to Stellan's incredibly complex  and much darker sleep-deprived homicide detective.
